Introduction
The TCM Film Festival, held in the heart of Hollywood, brings movie fans from all over the world for three days of immersion in film. A film is playing at each of the festival’s five venues from 9am until late in the evening, offering the festival attendee twenty-five films from which to choose per day. The dedicated fan can see five movies each day. Most of the films had a guest speaker in attendance. A list of the films we saw at the festival is at the bottom of the page.
El Capitan Theatre
The theater has been refurbished by Disney and shows Disney films exclusively. The festival presentation of Mary Poppins (1964) was shown at the theater.
Grauman's Chinese Theatre
Grauman's Chinese Theatre, opened 1927, enlivens the street scene. Its unusual form was modeled on the structure of a Chinese palace. The forecourt contains the hand and footprints of many famous actors.
Posters
Each year the festival features distinctive posters displayed inside the venues and on buildings and signboards along Hollywood Blvd. The posters for the 2014 festival portray costumed actors behind the scenes. The poster at the top of the page shows director George Cukor and the cast of The Women (1939).
Festival Themes
All the films shown at the Festival fit into an overall theme. The theme for 2014 was Family in the Movies: The Ties That Bind. Each film fits into one of nine programming themes associated with the overall theme.
